Kalina and Sarah both score a point at the Remenyik tournament at Northwestern

Remenyik ROC/RJCC Results

Sarah and Kalina competed at Northwestern University’s Remenyik ROC/RJCC tournament last weekend. Division 1A Women’s Epee was Kalina’s first senior (ages 13 and up) event. She and Sarah both went 3-3 in the first round (pools), which meant that they had the misfortune of being each other’s first bout in the second round (direct elimination). Sarah won the 15-point bout 15-14, and then was eliminated by 1st seed, finishing 25th. Kalina ended 40th, but fortunately had another event to fence – cadet! She fenced well, making it to the round of 16 before being eliminated in a 15-14 bout with the eventual silver medalist. She finished 10th overall and came home with a little replica sword for being the highest-placing D-rated fencer.

Windy City SYC Results

Back to the greater Chicago area again (it’s quickly becoming our 2nd home this season) for the Windy City Super Youth Circuit tournament, where Kalina, James, and Ella fenced in several events. First up in Y14 Women’s Epee, Kalina finished 7th and earned her D24 rating/classification! Y14 Men’s Epee was a big step up for James, and he came in 40th place. In Y12 Women’s Epee, Ella finished 31st and decided she needs to work on her fleche (an explosive attack where the back foot crosses the front) back at the club. In Y12 Men’s Epee, James came in 15th in his first Y12 event outside of our club. Finally, Kalina ended 23rd in her first Cadet event.
