For our first bigger tournament this season, three of our fencers traveled to Kansas City to compete at the HFA Regional Open Circuit tournament this weekend. Jim finished 7th in Division 1A Men’s Epee. In Div 1A Women’s Epee, Julia placed 9th and Sarah placed 6th. They also fenced Div 2 Women’s Epee and came in 2nd and 5th, respectively.
Two RDF fencers made a quick hop over to the Iowa City Fencing Center this weekend to compete in the Summer’s End Tournament. Eric won the epee event, and Sarah finished 5th.
RDF sent three fencers to Summer Nationals in Dallas, TX. After a rough pool in Division II Men’s Epee at his first Nationals, Connor got his head back in the game to finish 38th of 143 in Division III Men’s Epee. Dorothea tried to ignore her recently-discovered epee instincts in Division II Women’s Foil, but had more luck using them to make the cut into the Direct Elimination round in Division II Women’s Epee. Sarah also fenced Division II Epee and lost to the eventual silver medalist in the round of 32, ending 20th of 130.

Today, three Red Door Fencers traveled to the Lincoln Fencing Club in Nebraska for their D & Under tournament. In US fencing, fencers are classified by how well they’ve done in tournaments and how strong/large those tournaments were. A is the top level, and E is the lowest classification besides U, for “unclassified”. This tournament was limited to fencers classified as D’s, E’s, and U’s, which makes it a great tournament for getting lots of practice against people of roughly similar skill. Here’s how the RDF fencers placed:
This weekend Jim, Julia, and Sarah competed at Remenyik, a Regional Open Circuit (ROC) event in Chicago, IL. Jim was able to make huge improvements on an opponent that he had trouble with in his pool. Sarah was undefeated in her pool, and Julia intimidated everyone in her first large event by beating the leader of the pool 5-0!
